I am so excited to be a part of the Boise traffic box program and have the opportunity to turn a functional object into something memorable. With my traffic box design, I wanted to highlight the country's oldest and largest geothermal system. My illustration visually takes you through the process of geothermal heating. By featuring iconic Boise landmarks heated by this system, my design shows the breadth of geothermal impact downtown. As the design wraps around the traffic box, it tells the story of how rain and snow fall in the foothills, are absorbed into an underground well, travel through pipes beneath the city to heat recognizable buildings, and finally reach the injection well, where the water completes its cycle. This visual narrative aims to foster understanding of the geothermal system’s crucial role in making Boise more energy-efficient and sustainable.
